Goreme Open Air museum - Turkey

Goreme open air museum is a vast monastic complex composed of many churches and monasteries from the 10th - 12th centuries.  The open complex is also a UNESCO's world heritage site.

Local shepherds who did not know better used to throw rocks and stones at one of these churches to destroy them but seeing visitors from all over coming just to see these amazing structures have prompted them into preserving these sites.  The flow of international visitors have brought in money into this rocky, dusty region making it one of the most visited region in Turkey.
