The tuk-tuk and other mode of transport - the quintessential way of getting around

While developed big cities provide the public with well connected mass transit system – monorail, the metro system, city buses and taxis, there is still authenticity in up and coming cities as in Cambodia where motorbikes and tuk-tuk are king of the roads and the fastest way to get around the busy streets. Airy, sometimes colorfully decorated, the tuk-tuk gets you to your destination. Should a downpour happens, a flap is pulled down to keep passengers dry from the rain.

The really worn out bus cum van – Getting around in one of these is a neck-breaking experience. It’s hot and stuffy inside and you are squashed with 4-5 other passengers. Of course if a passenger decides to bring in a goat or a chicken, just become friends with them. Noisy and almost in need of repair, it does the job of getting to your destination where there is no regular bus.

The trishaw – Geared more towards tourists than the locals, bargain really hard before getting into one. It’s another fun way of getting around when your feet needed a rest. Pity the cyclist is he happens to be a small, wiry man and the 2 passengers weighs more than he could peddle.
