Travelling in South East Asia - Destination, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Originally from South East Asia myself, the region never fails to impress me - it's loud and colorful,  with ever changing landscapes, the food delicious, and everywhere you turn, there's always a photo opportunity.

Landing at the international airport in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, there are two fast ways to reach downtown KL .... the regular train, which can take 45 minutes to an hour as it stops at every train station or the high-speed express train that takes only 28 minutes to reach the main terminal.
The city is well served by public transport.  There is the LRT (light rail transit), the metro underground train, or the public buses.  A free bus service was introduced recently that takes passengers to areas in and around Chinatown. Operating at 6am in the morning, it's very popular and frequently packed. Unless you do not mind being squashed against smelly, sticky bodies and the occasionally unwanted attention, it's a cheap alternative to take you to your destination.  Taxis are expensive and unless you want to be held hostage by rude taxi drivers who are controlled by the taxi mafia, or worst, dishonest and criminal-like taxi drivers, I won't recommend taking one.

Women, who do not feel comfortable sitting with local men (who constantly stare at you) on crowded trains, can opt to sit in the "coaches for ladies only".  I've seen men who went into these coaches, only to be kicked out by women.
