Geneva - Nearby day trips

~Geneva~
Geneva is an easy city to navigate on foot.  The best way to get into the city is by public transit.  Yes, its an expensive city but there are quite a bit that you can see for free. Start with the old town center, window shopping, then to the park and the water front.

~Bern~
Bern is the capital of Switzerland and is quintessential Swiss. What is there to do in Bern? In Summer,
Check the neat layout of the city
Walk down the streets
Main street has beautiful architecture and interesting cellar shops below the street's surface
Drop by the chocolate shop
Stop and watch a little person comes out as the clock chimes at 12 noon

There is a neat neighborhood with charming little flats below the brewery; stop by the farmer's market at the square, and if you are lucky enough to be there on a weekend, have a free iced lollipop given out by young men on tricycles.

~Gruyeres~
About 90 minutes from Geneva, this a day trip for cheese and chocolate lovers.  The scenery is breathtaking even on a wintery day.

Make your way to the top walking up the steep road to the medieval village. The local fare is of course all things dairy, so cheese is the word.  You can check out the cheese factory and see how robot arms move and turn the cheese blocks on the shelves.
