San Marino

View from one of the towers

San Marino, officially the Republic of San Marino is an enclave microstate surrounded by Italy.  San Marino is also the least visited country in the world.  However, that should keep the local crowds happy as they will more space to move along the narrow streets.

No passport is required to enter the Republic and currency in use is the Euro.  Since this is touristy toy-like town, be prepared to see lots of souvenir shops.

Perched on the top of a 657m lump of rock, the easiest way to reach the old town is to park in one of the parking spots below and take the elevator up to the town center.

My 2nd visit to this republic was in the winter season and with less crowds, it was easier to walk along the narrow streets and take in the breathtaking view from the Towers of the Romagna on one side and the ancient Republic from the other.
