Penang - Good and the bad

Ah, what can I say about Penang? I had a rude encounter with a local upon arrival when I asked for information.  Thinking I did not understand Malay, he proceeded to make some rude remarks.

There were some colorful street finds while exploring on foot, including a sweet seller

The Keling mosque. A nice Malay gentleman on his way to prayers welcomed us to drop in

Old houses on the streets

The dingy houses on silts by the muddy river

Street clobber with not much customers, reading the day's news and digging his nose

Even had time to stop by one of the temples

The over-rated Blue mansion which is not worth a visit

Anyone thinking of stopping by at the Blue Mansion, my advice would be a "No".  It was mentioned in a guidebook as a sight that can be missed and that should be dully noted.  The entrance fee does not do justice. The guide was very rude and will treat you like some naughty five-year old.
